FRACTAL NIGHTS #22 with Ida The Young and Manon Meurt from Czech Republic and Sakura (+Band) from Vienna. For the first time at dasLOT – which we’re incredibly stoked about.
For our last show in 2025 we’re striking a calmer tone: less powerchords, more powerfeels™. Ida The Young is an indie folk/alt rock band from Czech Republic. A band that we’re incredibly excited about, especially since they’ve been recommended to us from a significant amount of people we care about. So, thanks to the band for approaching us at last to create this beautiful evening together. They formed when London-based singer Iris Hobson-Mazur moved to Pilsen and met guitarist Marek Koliha. Including the founding duo the band now consists of Filip Simon (drums), Pavel Kielberger (bass, guitar, synths) and Jakub Richtárech (keys). They are not afraid of experimenting with different textures and genres, which you can hear on their, indie-folk influenced, debut EP “Strange Shaped Flowers” (2023), and also on their newest, more electronica based, second EP “Silver Thing” (2024, released by Korobushka Records).

We’re honoured and happy to be joined by sakura and their incredible band. It’s about time!

Sakura Katsuura Chow is a musician and producer with Japanese roots, born and raised in Hong Kong and currently based in Vienna. Their eponymous solo project sakura operates in a genre-spanning fashion; melding ambient, shoegaze, slowcore and alt/indie influences together to create music that feels adjacent to pop, yet draped in an otherworldly soundscape and emotional rigour.

Live, sakura has been invited to share the stage with a noteworthy roster of artists ranging from supporting scene veterans such as Mitski, to touring the EU with danish electrogaze pioneer Trentemøller. Their work as a songwriter and producer has led them to collaborations with creative contemporaries such as FARCE, Trauma Glow, and the group Kin Dread - where DIY Viennese subculture meets experimental and playful pop - as well as playing guitar in Lino Camilo.

Czech shoegazing post-rockers Manon Meurt are finalising the line up. œ of Fractal Nights once went to Czech Republic to see Crack Cloud for the 2 nd time in one week and stumbled upon Manon Meurt at the Festival - fortunately. What a show that was – happy to now welcome them in Vienna!

Beauty, noise and trembling. Manon Meurt are masters in the contrasts of quiet and noisy passages and in the epic gradations of their songs. On the ruins of the shoegaze pedestal, the band has spent several years building a base for their new sound, only to be able to tear it down and start again.

Sometimes half-dead from the confused silence of the time, sometimes completely overwhelmed by the impact of powerful concerts, during which everything was clear to them. Always. Now they are back with a darker, heavier and more complex sound, stronger than ever. For their new album the band once again joined forces with a strong producer personality - British musician and producer Eddie Stevens who is known for working with Moloko, Zero 7 or Róisín Murphy. The new album Unravel was released on 26th April 2024 on Minority Records.
